What is the most efficient way to repair the frayed edges of a hard book cover with clear packing tape?

Clear Packing Tape is not so hot.

Try Elmer's Glue. It dries clear and is very sturdy.

Just smear it around on the frayed edges, prop the book cover open so the glue will dry.

You might also use cloth tape, available in any hardware store in different colors.

If you have an Amazon Account, you can search and read for free this cool book: The Care and Feeding of Books Old and New: A Simple Repair Manual for Book Lovers (see link below)
