Maybe there's too much slack in the tape, try tightening it up by turning the spindles opposite of each other at the same time (by hand).. Don't go crazy with it, it may just need to be tightened a bit

VHS Tape Only Clear in Fast Foward?
I'm trying to copy my vhs home videos to DVD...one of my tapes tracking is all messed up, and the home video is only clear when I fast forward the tape. I've tried manually fixing the tracking, that did not work. This tape is nearly 20 years old, but I have tapes that have worked near that age.
